The Baia Azul is being given a makeover for May 2016.
Location-wise, it’s in a peaceful, hillside spot overlooking the rocky shores of Funchal.
A black-sand and pebble beach is a 15-minute walk away, and the hotel runs a shuttle bus there and back.A couple of minutes’ walk down the road, there’s a commercial centre with shops, bars and restaurants.
You can get to the centre of Funchal by taking a 15-minute taxi ride.On the outdoor terrace, you’ll find a rectangular pool, plus a smaller one for children.
There’s a pool bar next to it, as well as a café for hot drinks and cakes.
Indoors, there’s the buffet restaurant which opens for breakfast and dinner, a games room, and a wellness centre with a sauna.
